Hey folks.  I’m glad you’re here.  I’m Lorraine, Repose Birth Services’ CEO & Agency Director.  Repose Birth Services was created in 2020 initially as a way to improve maternal health conditions and breastfeeding rates for Black, Latin American, & Indigenous families throughout New Jersey.  Families of color, specifically Black women, are more likely to experience pregnancy-related trauma, morbidity, and even death.  The trauma is something that I experienced myself after the birth of my first and only child.  New Jersey is one of the most unsafe states to give birth in the United States.  In New York City, Black women are 7-9x more likely to die in childbirth than women of other races or ethnicities.

At Repose, we aim to reverse these statistics by helping families to achieve beautiful births through high-caliber education, fierce advocacy, and hands-on support from the moment a family comes on board during pregnancy to the weeks following the birth of a baby.

We currently have a team of over 20 doulas contracted under our agency, all whom identify as Black or Latina.  Asides from being doulas,  many of the doulas on my team are also licensed clinical therapists, registered nurses, social workers, community leaders, and more.  Each doula was hand-picked to be on the team based on their incredible reputation within the community, and has been intensively vetted to ensure excellence within the services our agency provides.

The clients that we serve are even more incredibly diverse.  We support new and expectant families of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
